Gm300 interface cable
Motorola GM 300 (GM300 GM-300) Radio Programming, 8 to 16 channel expansion: Introduction. The Motorola GM300 can be re-programmed quite easily to allow use on our Amateur Radio bands. The radio is made in both a VHF and UHF versions, and makes an excellent 2mtr.
#35414 Hi, Does anyone have the pinouts to make up a cable for the GM300 to the RC210? Is there any special hookups or programming for active hi/low or anything I need to be aware of to add a UHF GM300 as a link radio? Thanks, Gary KB2NYC
#35415 I don't , but i am watching this with intetest as we may be trying to do the same thing. WA2PUX

#35421 If the GM300 has the 'masked' logic board, then Pin 8 is COS Low. If the GM300 has the Expanded Logic Board, then Pin 8 is programmable High or Low. Also Pin 12 can be programmed for CTCSS High or Low on this model. If you need any help or info, drop me an e-mail. I have made dozens. #35422 I just done an interface to a CDM series radio. I'm pretty sure the accessory pinouts are the same between the GM series and CDM. You can go into the Motorola RSS software and set pin 8 COR output to be Tone + Squelch so that you only get a COR signal when the tone is received. It makes it easier than using a CTCSS signal. I will upload my drawing I made tonight. Andrew - K8ATG

#35437 I make several mods to my GM300/maxtrac/radius radios especially when used as a link radio. With the 16 pin versions it is normally fairly easy to do the mods. This is the pin out I use. Pin 2 on accy jack goes to pin 4 on the RC210 for TX audio Pin 3 on accy jack goes to pin 3 on the RC210 for PTT which is active low Pin 4 on accy jack goes to pin 7 on the RC210 active high ( must program GM300 to have CSQ on this pin) Pin 6 on ACCY jack to pin 1 on RC210 for PL enable ( This only works on a link radio if you do the TX PL mod on repeater builder) ( on a repeater TX this will work if you program the GM300 pin for TX PL inhibit) Pin 7 on accy jack to pin 6 on RC210 for ground Pin 8 on Accy jack to pin 2 on the RC210 for RX PL (Program the pin on the GM300 for CSQ + PL ) active low Pin 11 on ACCY jack to pin 5 on RC10 for RX audio This pin has several choices for audio out depending on jumper configuration inside the radio you can get deemphasized/ squelched/filtered RX audio, or un-squelched/un-deemphasized/unfiltered RX audio, or if you run a jumper between a couple of pins in the radio you can get un-squelched/un-deemphasized RX audio that has the PL tone filtered out which is the configuration I use. If you are not adept at reading schematics or modifying radios then you probably should make sure you have radio jumpers set for the squelched deemphasized audio and make sure you remove the deemphasis jumper inside the RC210. #35438 John, thanks for the more detailed interface, I’m not certain which configuration to use as I’m not familiar with the GM300 and have only worked with the CDM 1550 and HT1250 series of radios. I have a spare GM300 on the band I want to use for the link and thought it would be an easy interface to make up without any radio mods. I guess I need a little help to find the tap points to get the best audio out of it. Would be great if there was a YouTube video covering the jumpers. #35439 Gary, I've attached a wiring diagram and notes I just wrote up a few days ago. The 16 pin connector on the GM series radio should be the same as a CDM that I used. Thanks, Andrew - K8ATG
#35441 Hi all, toggle quoted messageShow quoted text Made up a jumper as per Ken’s specs, used some of John’s jumper advise and programmed pin 8 for Dpl, Pl, Csq and active low, works like a champ and only cost me $7 for a cable to butcher from micro center. #35442 I'd like to confirm one thing - if the GM300 has the 'masked' toggle quoted messageShow quoted textlogic board, then Pin 8 is COS, active low and CANNOT be changed. If you need a separate COS and PL decode then add the resistor and NPN transistor to generate the COS, then use pin 8 as the PL decode signal. If the radio has the 'expanded' board then any one of several pins can be programed as COS or as PL Decode. If you plan on using the channel steering feature (only available on the 'expanded' board, then you have to be careful of your pin assignments. I ended up using pin 4 as my COS, and pin 4 (and only pin 4) is wired to actively drag that pin high (to +12) in stead of dragging the pin low (to ground). I used a series resistor and an NPN transistor external to the radio to convert the high signal from pin 4s to an active-low COS.
